EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (PRESS RELEASE) -- Mega! Co-op Holiday and Travel Stop stores are pleased to announce a donation of more than $17,500 to Special Olympics Wisconsin through its efforts in “Filling the Dream for Special Olympics’ Athletes.” An official check presentation will be held at Mega! Co-op Holiday located at 1433 Commercial Blvd (Melby Exit) in Chippewa Falls, WI on Wednesday, July 19 at 4 p.m.
On Saturday, May 13, Mega! Co-op Holiday and Travel Stop stores donated 5 cents from every gallon of fuel pumped by Special Olympics volunteers which included local Law Enforcement and community groups. In addition to funds from fuel sales, volunteers grilled brats and burgers during the lunch hour with all money raised being added to the grand total donated to Special Olympics Wisconsin.Mega Co-op Filling the Dreams for Special Olympics Wisconsin
“On behalf of the 350 Mega! Co-op team members and over 20,000 Mega! Co-op members, it is our sincere honor to support Special Olympics Wisconsin and our local athletes through ‘Filling the Dreams’ annual fund-raising event,” said Mike Buck, Mega! Co-op President.
Worldwide, Special Olympics is the largest sports organization for individuals with intellectual disabilities with 4.4 million athletes in 170 countries.
Special Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI) provides year-round sports opportunities to more than 10,000 athletes, of any skill level, across the state. With training and competitions in 18 Olympic-style sports, these athletes push hard and play harder. More than 1,000 athletes in our local region will benefit from this donation.
“The support our athletes and our entire organization has received from Mega! Co-op through the years has made a tremendous positive impact. Besides monetary contributions, Mega! Co-op employees have volunteered at events and helped promote our events, which is huge because volunteers are the backbone of our program,” said Karen Kraus, Special Olympics Regional Director of Development.
Since 2007, Mega! Co-op has raised more than $160,000 for Special Olympics Wisconsin and its local athletes through the “Filling the Dreams” campaign.
