TOWN OF HAMBURG, Wis. (WEAU) -- Icy road conditions caused three cars to crash in Vernon County, all three happening within 45 minutes.

According to the Vernon County Sheriff's Office, the three crashes all happened on Highway 14 near Hellwig Lane in the Town of Hamburg on Monday night.

The first car crashed at 6:52 p.m. The driver lost control of his vehicle while traveling eastbound on Highway 14 due to icy conditions and crashed into the guardrail.

The second crash took place at 7:00 p.m. The driver was behind the already-crashed car and tried to avoid running into the car, causing him to slide and also crash into the guardrail.

In a separate accident at about 7:29 p.m., another driver was traveling westbound when she lost control of her car. She crossed into the other lane and crashed into the guard rail. The driver was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Vernon County Sheriff's Office said all three drivers were wearing their seatbelts. Highway 14 was shut down for about an hour and a half until road conditions were safe to travel in.

The accidents remain under investigation by the Vernon County Sheriff's Office.
