Local nurse midwife crochets hats for newborns

CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (WEAU) -- Certified nurse-midwife with Prevea Health, Annie Bailey, welcomes new lives at HSHS St. Joseph's hospital in Chippewa Falls with a cute and cozy hat.

Bailey has been crocheting hats for approximately fourteen years now. She learned to crochet from her mother and says it brings her joy to see mothers’ eyes light up when they receive a hat for their baby.

Bailey says she will be making one hundred red baby hats for the month of February. She makes a hat for each baby that she delivers.

“My favorite part about being a midwife is I make a difference in women’s lives at a time when they need it the most,” says Bailey.

She says making these hats is very relaxing for her and she enjoys doing something extra special for the babies and their mothers.

Bailey averages around three hundred hats a year. Each hat can take up to two hours, depending on how detailed she makes the hat.

“I love seeing these hats on little heads out in the community,” says Bailey.
