INDEPENDENCE, Wis. (WEAU) -- One man is taken into custody after leading police on a chase in Trempealeau County.

According to the Independence Police Department, it happened just before 2 a.m. Sunday, July 16th.

An officer tried to stop a vehicle driven by 22-year-old Romiro Pillado-Salgado. Police said Pillado-Salgado drove off, leading police on a chase while taking numerous back streets within Independence.

Officers said he then traveled northbound on Highway 93 and continued on several more back roads in Burnside.

He avoided a set of spike strips while driving on County Road X.
Officers said speeds during the chase reached 90 miles per hour at times

Police said Pillado-Salgado eventually made his way back to Independence where he continued to elude officers, including driving through a yard.

A sergeant with the Trempealeau County Sheriff's Department was able to set up spike strips on Highway 93 near Adams Street in Independence.

Pillado-Salgado stopped his vehicle just before hitting the strips and was taken into custody, according to police.

He was booked into the Trempealeau County Jail for knowingly fleeing an officer, OWI, and an outstanding warrant.
