Permit hearing set for Cranberry Creek dairy farm

TOWN OF ROCK CREEK, Wis. (WEAU) -- A permit hearing is scheduled for next week in Dunn County as an area dairy farm looks to expand its operations for a second time.

The Cranberry Creek permit hearing is scheduled for Tuesday in the Town of Rock Creek, starting at 10 a.m. In September, the dairy hoped to increase its number of cows from 1,300 to 5,000. However, hundreds of community members spoke out against the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources granting the expansion permit.

Community members said they were concerned about health hazards, how the animals will be cared for, and how manure from the farm could impact their land. Cranberry Creek dairy's owner said the proposed expansion could help the community by adding 40 more jobs.
