UPDATE: suspect killed in officer-involved shooting

SPARTA, Wis. (WEAU)- Investigators now say a suspect was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Sparta.

It happened Sunday morning at a home on the 1000 block of Saint Anne Street.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice says officers responded to a report of a domestic violence incident at the home. When they got there, they say a man was threatening a woman with a knife.

A deputy with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office shot the suspect, and the man died of his injuries. The deputy has been placed on administrative leave, which is department policy.

The deputy and suspect's name have not been released.

The Wisconsin DOJ is leading the investigation in collaboration between DCI, the Wisconsin State Patrol, and the Monroe County Medical Examiner.

DCI is continuing to collect evidence and determine the facts of this incident and will turn over investigative reports to the Monroe County District Attorney when the investigation concludes.

The Sparta Police Department says its officers and Monroe County deputies were called to a home on the 1000 block of St. Anne St. around 10 a.m. Sunday morning. Traffic was closed to the area and police remained on the scene for several hours.

The department says this was an isolated incident and there is no danger to the public. Officers are expecting to release more information on Monday.
