EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- For the first time, local organizations teamed up to put on a pre-festival concert series throughout downtown Eau Claire.

A sold out concert featuring Justin Vernon at the Oxbow Hotel, was one of the many shows featured at Prex Claires Thursday evening.

Prex Claires is a brand new event this year providing a pre-celebration for what is to come tomorrow at Eaux Claires Music Festival.

The event which started at 5 p.m. was sponsored on by Blugold Radio 99.9 FM, Downtown Eau Claire Inc., Volume One and the Brewing Projekt. Throughout the night, Prex Claires featured both free and paid concerts for all ages across 13 different downtown venues, as well as local artists doing public art displays.

Kyran Hamill, a representative of Downtown Eau Claire Inc. says Prex Claires is a great way to bring festival goers into town and see Eau Claire in its natural environment.

“Prex Claires is really an effort to get all of those visitors that are in town for the weekend, for the Eaux Claires Festival, to get them to come downtown into our music venues, into our restaurants, our bars, our shops and really get them to have that Eau Claire experience,” he says.

The Eaux Claires Music Festival, which starts Friday, has seen huge growth since its start in 2015 and event sponsors say Prex Claires is the perfect way to kick off the fun downtown.
