EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- A special comedy telethon raising money for charities which fight poverty returns to NBC tonight.

The “Red Nose Day” event is a spinoff of a long-running British telethon that carries the motto “Good Laughs for a Good Cause.”

The combination of comedy sketches and musical performances helped drum up $23 million in donations last year. Some of that was spurred by vignettes that aired during the telethon, highlighting troubled areas.

“Red Nose Day" airs live Thursday on WEAU 13 News starting at 8 p.m.
