EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Republican U.S. Senate Candidate Kevin Nicholson stopped in the Chippewa Valley to share his message with area veterans.

It's part of the Veterans and Homefront Heroes Tour.

Former State Senator Dave Zien hosted the event at the VFW Post in Eau Claire.

Nicholson said his goal with running for senate is to create opportunities for Wisconsinites.

He said D.C. is broken and if he's elected, he'll do things differently on Capitol Hill.

"We are going to challenge people's thought process. We are going to give a better set of ideas that actually work. I was a Democrat a long time ago, I'm a Republican conservative today, because I think the policies work better they create a safer more prosperous world," said Kevin Nicholson.

Nicholson's Republican challenger, State Senator Leah Vukmir, will face each other in the August 14 primary.
