The Centers for Disease Control and prevention recommends a yearly flu vaccine for everyone 6 months and older. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for protection to set in. The flu strain changes every year so it’s important to be vaccinated yearly.

As for the myth that a flu vaccination will cause you to get sick from the flu? It's just that – a myth. The vaccine contains a strain of the flu virus that’s been made inactive and is not infectious.
