Campers don't mind a little Country Jam mud
The Jam grounds and the campgrounds were a bit of a muddy mess for day one of Country Jam USA, but the spirits were high

After a rainy start to the day, Country Jam USA opened its gates Thursday afternoon. Thursday night, the place was rocking as Jason Aldean kicked off the three day music festival.
Ahead of his show, muddy roads caused Jam campers to back up at Whispering Fields campground as crews worked to smooth them down. The sheriff's department says some people were delayed for up to two hours. But, once inside, campers weren't about to complain about the rain.
"They have squirt guns so we'd be wet anyways," Paige Roth-Smith says laughing.
"We packed everything in totes and garbage bags and put a tarp over the back of the truck and took off," Joanne Olson says of her group of four.
Down on the Jam grounds, the muddy situation was the same, but the spirits were if possible even higher.
“We're going to wear our rain boots all three days so if it keeps raining we'll just keep rocking the boots,” say Marissa Mayer and Makkena Westphal as they tromp through the mud.
“Rain is definitely frustrating especially when your business is only open three days a year and you wake up on the first day and it’s pouring,” says Kathy Wright with Country Jam.
Wright says with some extra wood chips and pumps, the grounds clean up fast. The only things that would cancel or delay a show would be strong winds or lightning. That said, most Country Jammers aren't going to mind a little mud.
"Jason Aldean is worth it though. Oh yeah. He is so worth the mud and rain,” say Mayer and Westphal with a couple of giggles.
Friday’s headliner is Miranda Lambert. On Saturday, it's Sugarland.
