The Eau Claire Express had 10 former and current players drafted in the year’s Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft.

Pitcher Jordan Zimmermann headlined the class as he was drafted in the second round (67) by the Washington Nationals. Also, drafted during the first day was pitcher Thomas Eager. The St. Louis Cardinals drafted Eager in the fifth round (172).

Today saw seven Express players drafted. Current player Russell Dixon was drafted by his hometown team the Houston Astros in the seventh round (231). Two rounds later, 2005 player Mark Hallberg was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks with the 283rd overall pick. Another 2005 player, Evan Frey was selected in the 10th round (313) also by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Nick Fellman, who played for the Express the past two season was drafted in the 12th round (378) by the Atlanta Braves. The Texas Rangers in the 18th round (560) selected Ryan Tatusko, who started the inaugural game for the Express. Kraig Binick was drafted in the 27th round (819) by the Baltimore Orioles. The San Diego Padres in the 29th round (897) drafted Brian Joynt.

Another Express player that has yet to arrive, Devin Lohman, was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 43rd round. Lohman will still play for the Express and is expected to be with the team by the beginning of next week.

Including Jon Bjelland and Mark Rodrigues, whom signed with Major League teams before the draft, the Express have now had 12 players either drafted or signed in the past two weeks.
