The Wisconsin Supreme Court reinstates an arbitrator's award granting back pay to a teacher who was under compensated for years.
Christine Johnson realized in 2005 the Baldwin-Woodville Area School District hadn't considered her graduate school credits when setting her salary for the three previous years.
The district increased her salary but refused back pay. She waited until the next summer to seek back pay and an arbitrator ultimately ruled in her favor.
But an appeals court threw out the award after the district argued Johnson waited too long to file a grievance, which is required within 15 days under a union contract.
The Supreme Court reinstated the award Wednesday, ruling the grievance was filed within 15 days after Johnson learned the school board denied her request.
