(WEAU) - The celebration of Black History Month continues at UW-Eau Claire and Wednesday afternoon, students were introduced to a man who spent years playing baseball in the Negro leagues.
Dennis Biddle was a pitcher for the Chicago American Giants in 1953 and 1954. At UW-Eau Claire, Biddle talked about life as a Negro league ball player, playing against some of the greats of the time, and the lessons he learned.
He says he speaks to young people now as a way to honor the players who helped him growing up. Biddle says “They took me under their wings, and they prepared me for life and I really appreciate that."
Biddle was the youngest player to ever play in the Negro leagues and went on to play with the Chicago Cubs for three years.
