FALL CREEK, Wisc. (WEAU) -- A new club catering to homeschooling parents and their children held its first session this Monday in Fall Creek.
The club is the brainchild of the Fall Creek Library's youth program coordinator Jenna Gilles. She told us the club is designed to be whatever parents and children want, but mostly a gathering place to learn and meet other local homeschoolers.
The idea came to Gilles when she started noticing a pattern, “I noticed more and more families coming into the library during the day,” she remembers.
Turns out they were homeschooling families, many of them new to the Fall Creek area and some of them wondering how to connect with other homeschool families.
And so the Homeschool Club was born.
“It’s a place where parents can swap stories or if they need to run errands they can do that; share resources, hey I found this website, I really recommend it,” Gilles describes.
Monday, February 20 was the first meeting and Gilles says a lot of the day’s activities centered on getting to know the kids and the parents.
“I'm really interested in letting this be a place for them to come to,” Gilles says.
For parent Debbie Krenz, she's looking for two things.
“I’m Interested just to give the kids another opportunity to be with other kids their age and find out some more about kids in this area,” Krenz tells us.
But she's also looking to learn, this is her first year homeschooling her three kids ages 10, 7 and 6.
“Just to be able to meet some other moms, see how they structure their day or any of the other things they do, get some pointers to help with the homeschooling day,” she says.
The Homeschool Club meets every third Monday of the month at the Fall Creek Library.
