A new report says Wisconsin donors gave political groups $1 million last year.
The Wisconsin Democracy Campaign study looked at contributions to 527 groups, which are nonprofit organizations formed to influence elections. They're called 527s after the section of federal tax rules that authorize them.
The study says the $1 million the groups collected was a non-election year record. The old mark was a little more than $610,000 set in 2005.
The Progressive Majority raised the most with about $203,000 in contributions. It supports Democrats.
Milwaukee philanthropist Lynde Uihlein was the top contributor at nearly $360,000.
