Presumptive Republican Presidential nominee John McCain is planning a visit to Eau Claire.

Leaders with the McCain campaign haven’t told us the nature of his stop or who he plans to meet with.

However, local party leaders have been in contact with NewsCenter 13 about doing an interview with him. Chris Herzog will bring us that one-on-one interview Friday night during NewsCenter 13 at 5 and 6PM.

Bob McCoy, with the Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce says he’s heard McCain will stop at an undisclosed small business before boarding his plane at the Chippewa Valley Regional Airport.

"Smaller business is important to the economy and obviously, you can't make a big splash at everything you do and he just wants to visit with somebody, make some comments and I think it's exciting that he picked Wisconsin and specifically Eau Claire,” McCoy said.

McCain was in Saint Paul, Minnesota on Thursday. He’ll head to Hudson Friday morning before coming to Eau Claire to host a women-only town hall meeting on economic issues. That session is closed to the public.

Staffers with the Barack Obama campaign say they will also host a community meeting with working women Friday in Hudson. Obama himself, however, will not be at that event.

McCain’s visit won’t be the first time a presidential hopeful has come through the Chippewa Valley this year.

In February, Democrat Barack Obama and Republican Mike Huckabee both made campaign stops in Eau Claire before the Wisconsin primary.

It is unfortunate that John McCain only flies in to get a couple of interviews with our media, and then quickly takes off. Just another Republican "closed door, private event" so the masses can't ask questions. Does McCain actually want people to listen to him? You cannot win the presidency by simply speaking to 100 loaylists at a "business to be determined later". No offence, but if this guy wants to beat Barack Obama he is going to have to try much harder.

Funny how McCain's town hall events are always closed so it can only be his surrogates that attend. I guess he doesn't want to answer any difficult questions like how his voting record rating on veteran's affairs is less than subpar. Not to mention he just might get a Viagra question!

It must be nice to run a campaign for president and only hold "private, closed to the public" events at unnamed small businesses in the "area". If this isn't symbolic of the Bush years I don't know what is. At least this way you can control your message, and who gets to hear it.

I like McCain's honesty, he never goes back on his word, I wish he had more media coverage. I suppose he's spending less, but his message is to allow & try every means necessary to not be dependant on oil. Ever since president bush told us"America is addicted to oil." I've hoped changes would be made look at the progress since then especially in California. We need hydro power gas stations here. and solar power and wind generators.
