Arlena Schott from Garden Wise with Arlena showed us her family tradition of Blessing Boxes:
Get a special box, buy one or make one, and find some fun little pieces (acorns, beads, etc) and pass the box around. Each person at your table blesses the piece and puts it in the box. They can say "I'm thankful for my health, my mom or something else" and they put the bauble in the box. Each person does the same thing until your box is full of blessings!
White Envelope Project:
Instead of, or in addition to, gifts, think about something special you can do in honor of your loved ones this holiday. You can buy a group of needy kids mittens or knit some in honor of your mom who likes to knit. Perhaps you have an avid reader in your family. Why not donate books to a non-profit in their name? This can take many directions and cost as little or as much as you like. The purpose is to do good and honor your loved ones while doing it. You write down what you did and put it in a white envelope. Hang it on the tree and open it in lieu of gifts or at your holiday table. There is an entire non-profit set up in honor of this project.
