To see what the UW-Extension service recommends to take care of Asian Beetles, click here.

Here's our conversation with Zach Weathers, General Manager of Summit ACE Hardware. He pointed out the products that he says people buy to keep out Asian Beetles.

Weathers says, "anybody who has a house around here knows they get everywhere. In everything, any gap they've got any hole they've got they get in. I have customers in other places where they clean them out with shovels every year. "

"They smell bad and they bite. A couple of different things i recommend. Our number one recommendation always are the hot shot no pest strips. And what they do is release a vapor in the air that the bugs can't stand and they won't enter a house where that is located. They don't make it inside so you don't have to worry about killing them. They just stay outside. Now these do release a vapor into the air so you're not supposed to put them in areas like living rooms and bedrooms where you're going to be all the time. But for garages, basements, attics, crawlspaces this is a great product, virtually no smell. Couple of these around the house will cover you for the entire winter. "

"We've got a couple of sprays here. You spray this around windows, doorways, other gaps you think bugs might crawl in. This (Hot Shot Spray) will create a barrier they won't want to cross. This is by a different company called Enforcer," it says lady beetle killer right on it. The best use is to spray it in a room to kill the stuff that's already there. "

"The best way not to have to clean up beetles is not letting them in in the first place. What this does is you can spray it, it's got a nozzle(Great Stuff Spray) When you pick it up, spray it into your openings, and it expands up to eight times its size, so it will fill any gaps, crevasses, seal it so the Asian beetles can't crawl in it."

"To cut down on the amount of beetles into your house is making sure your screens are in good repair, making sure there aren't any holes. One of the things to make sure of on the bottom of your door is that your sweep is in good repair. A lot of people won't notice these are worn down and you end up with a gap underneath your door and the beetles will crawl in because they can sense the heat coming out from underneath the door. There's a lot of gap in there. Anything where there's a gap, you've got potential for a critter to crawl in, and what most of them are looking for is heat."
