Chronic Wasting Disease Testing

Wisconsin has done more testing for chronic wasting disease, or CWD, than any other state. Now, all of the testing seems to be paying off. Wisconsin is entering its third year of CWD management. About 500 deer have been tested in every county in the state. This year the Department of Natural Resources will only be testing the areas where CWD has been found, primarily in the southeast corner of the state. Otherwise, deer will only be tested in other areas if the DNR believe the deer in a specific area show signs of the disease. Dave Weitz, of the DNR, says hunters don't like the fact that the deer herd has to be reduced, but they understand the goal behind it.
