Dan Price and his family say their camping experience at Whitewater State Park in St. Charles, Minnesota, was calm and peaceful until they got a loud wake-up call early this morning.
"We awoke at about 1:30 in the morning to…it almost sounded like gunshots," Dan said.
So Dan called the Winona County Sheriff’s Department. Someone there told Dan that they had the situation under control.
"Everybody in the campground kinda laid awake all night long wondering what the heck happened, ya know?” Dan said.
Dan found out later that morning that the loud sound they heard was a flash-bang used to distract 38-year-old James Howze and 47-year-old Lonnie Munn.
The men were wanted for a triple homicide in Florida about a week ago.
"They went to a farm house, robbed them of money, then tied them up and executed them with a handgun," Winona County Sheriff Dave Brand said.
Sheriff Brand says at about six o’clock last night, U.S. Marshalls told him that one of the wanted men had used an ATM at Mike’s Food Center.
“I was told that they bought some pizza or some frozen foods, so our detectives felt they might be in the area and went camping," Sheriff Brand said.
He says deputies started searching the St. Charles area for the Dodge Ram pickup truck. Sheriff Brand says once they found the two men at the campgrounds, they surveyed the area before the SWAT Team went into the camper. Deputies then arrested the two men.
“We did a surprise attack on them so they couldn’t draw any weapons or any other devices to hurt us," Sheriff Brand said.
Sheriff Brand says a Wisconsin woman went camping with the men shortly after meeting them. He says they registered under her name and used her camper. Sheriff Brand says she was not involved in the case.
Today, the campground was cleaned up and people were trying to take it all in.
"Everything’s done and back to normal, just a matter of a few hours of a little bit of chaos in the one camp site," said Whitewater State Park Naturalist Dave Palmquist.
Camper Dan says, "I'm comforted that our law enforcement was doing a superb job down there. The took care of it.”
The men waived extradition in court today. They will be taken back to Florida by Friday of next week.

From earlier today, 9/2/10:
WINONA, Minn. (AP) -- Two fugitives wanted for killing three people in Florida have been arrested in a Minnesota state park.
Winona County Sheriff Dave Brand says the two men offered no resistance when SWAT team officers moved in on them about 1:40 a.m. Thursday at Whitewater State Park. Brand says the two were asleep in a camper.
The sheriff says the men are wanted in the fatal shootings of 57-year-old Joseph Militello Jr., his 68-year-old wife, Nancy Militello, and their 32-year-old nephew, Angelo Rosales, at their Suwannee County home Aug. 26. Investigators believe robbery could be the motive for the homicides.
Brand says the Suwannee County sheriff received information the fugitives were in Winona County and deputies located the suspects' vehicle in the park. The sheriff says the camper was owned by a woman who was also asleep inside. She was questioned and released.
