The Monroe County Sheriff's Department says a two-vehicle crash leaves one man with life threatening injuries.
Deputies say they responded to a motor vehicle crash on state highway 16, near the intersection with state highway 71 in the town of Angelo, near Sparta.
They say it happened just before 5 p.m. yesterday.
Deputies say 62-year-old David Preston of Sparta was pulling out of the Kwik Trip parking lot in his SUV onto state highway 16 eastbound when he got in the way of a truck driven by 48-year-old Scott Schmidt of Mauston, also heading eastbound.
The crash spun Schmidt's truck, facing the opposite direction. Preston's SUV ended up in a yard north of state highway 16.
Preston had to be extricated from his vehicle and was taken to a Franciscan Skemp Hospital in Sparta and later transported to Gunderson Lutheran in La Crosse with life threatening injuries.
Schmidt was also taken to the hospital but was treated and released.
The crash remains under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff's Department and Wisconsin State Patrol.
