Skateboarders in Chippewa Falls may get some new rails to grind next spring and the funding for it is already on a roll.

After some kids were caught skateboarding on local business property, Northwestern Bank decided to donate $27,000 for a new skate park.

The current park is worn down, and the parks director says it is heavily used. Now there's a deadline of December 15th to get a discount on new skate park equipment, that will cost $55,000. The city is hoping for private donations to cover the rest.

The skate park in Chippewa Falls does not charge an admission fee. The parks director says the new park plans include equipment that is similar to "street stuff" for skateboarders, like railings, steps, picnic tables and a half-pipe. It would have all metal frames with a special coating. The kids who use this skatepark are asked to help assemble the park in the spring. Skateboarders helped plan for some of the new equipment.
