Two men were taken to the hospital after their small bi-plane made an emergency landing.

It happened at about 9:15 a.m. Sunday in a field north of County Road X in Pierce County.

Deputies say Stephen Weber, 58, of Hastings, MN and Leon McNamara, 64, of Hastings, MN were treated at the scene, then brought to a River Falls hospital.

Weber told investigators that they left Hastings, MN from a private air strip that morning, and were headed to the Log Cabin Airport near Mondovi. He went on to say that they started to have engine trouble, and the engine eventually stalled. Weber says they landed in a hayfield, and the plane slid into a soybean field.

Weber told investigators he had a head and lower back injury, and that McNamara, who was his passenger, had a head and back injury.

Deputies say the plane is an Acro Sport II Experimental. They say it is a hand-built Bi wing with an open cockpit.

A federal aviation inspector responded, and took over investigation of the incident.
