TOWN OF LONG LAKE, Wis. (AP) -- An Illinois woman died and her son was injured while boating on a northwestern Wisconsin lake.
The Department of Natural Resources says authorities were called to Long Lake in southeastern Washburn County shortly after 9 a.m. Wednesday.
DNR warden Bill Yearman says 60-year-old Merle Piacenti of Peru, Ill., was bloodied and dazed when he went for help at a lakefront house after running the boat on shore in the Town of Long Lake. When authorities arrived they found his 82-year-old mother, Betty Piacenti of Ladd, Ill., was dead. Her son was taken by air to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Minn.
Yearman says investigators don't know yet what caused the woman's death.
