Nursing home settles wrongful death lawsuit

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A Sun Prairie nursing home has settled a lawsuit over the death of a patient for about $2 million.

Cynthia Wilms was a patient at Willows Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in 2007 following hip replacement surgery. Her family's attorneys say nurses failed to properly treat Wilms' surgical wound and she died as a result.

Family lawyer Matthew Boller says the case shows the "catastrophic results" that can occur when nursing homes are understaffed.

The nursing home owners declined to comment.
