The fire crew at the UW -Stevens Point is escalating its fight against garlic mustard to a new level.
Plans call for conducting a controlled burn of about 40 acres at standing Rocks Park this fall in an attempt to stop the spread of the invasive plant.
The plant spreads rapidly and its thick growth displaces native vegetation and even cuts off sunlight that tree and shrub seedlings need to grow.
The parks department has already pulled almost 5,000 pounds of garlic mustard from the ground this summer.
