A three-year agreement between UW-Eau Claire and Chippewa Valley Technical College is allowing CVTC students to room alongside university students. Nearly 50 of them are taking advantage this school year.
"I turned 18 two weeks before class started," said CVTC student Chris Colney, "so this was the only option I had." Colney lives with four other CVTC students in an overflow room in Towers North.
UW-Eau Claire's Housing Director said this year there are almost five times as many students in the dorms than there were last year. It's a pretty even mix of men and women this time around.
Forty-six university students are living in the Quality Inn this year, but they don't seem to mind it. Plus, officials at the University don't think the added cost of putting them up there will sting taxpayers after those students stick around for a second semester.
