Nader Off Ballot in Wisconsin

By  |

Dane County Circuirt Court Judge Michael Nowakowski ruled Tuesday that independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader be left off the Wisconsin ballot.

Nowakowski stayed a section of his decision to give Nader supporters time to file an appeal. They say they will turn to the state supreme court.

State Democrats filed a lawsuit to keep Nader off the ballot claiming Nader's nomination papers did not comply with state law. Wisconsin Democrats claim Nader could take away votes from Kerry in 2004. In 2000 Gore won by fewer than 7,000 votes statewide over Bush. Nader received about 96,000 votes in Wisconsin in 2000.

A prompt decision from the state supreme court is expected.
