This year, the political commercials and candidate visits started much earlier than in years past.
Response ads and protests are never far behind, along with those who steal yard signs of candidates they don't agree with.
Both the Democrat and Republican headquarters in Eau Claire say they have residents coming in for new signs after their old ones went missing or were destroyed by other people.
David Lynnes had his yard signs stolen, but he's trying to be optimistic about it. "It was there for a few weeks and all the sudden it disappeared one evening," says Lynnes. "Hopefully, somebody put it in their yard."
Eau Claire Police say they do receive a few calls about stolen signs, but they have difficulty prosecuting culprits due to lack of evidence.
