Home Heating Oil Prices on the Rise

Crude oil prices are soaring, and therefore futures prices for home heating oil have risen.

One area distributor, River Country Co-op, serves 2,000-3,000 fuel oil customers in Eau Claire, Dunn, and Chippewa Counties.

Manager Bruce Mlsna says if the price of crude oil keeps going up, the price per gallon of fuel oil could reach $2. That could equal between $200 and $500 extra spent on home heating this year.

About eight percent of Wisconsin homes heat with fuel oil. Natural gas is used by 66%, with propane and electricity used by about 11% each.
