Thirty-seven-year-old Mitchell Watenphul admitted during his sentencing to making mistakes as a parent and asked the court to help him recover from his drug addiction.
Judge Paul Lenz sentenced Watenphul to a year and a half in prison with five years of extended supervision in which he cannot be in possession of illegal drugs or alcohol.
Watenphul must also undergo a drug and alcohol treatment program, as well as parenting classes and counseling.
His wife, Clare Watenphul, was sentenced earlier this month to seven months in jail for child neglect.
