NEW INFORMATION: Jiskra resigns as Thorp's mayor

Thorp's City Administrator, Randy Reeg, says Craig Jiskra resigned from his position as mayor. Reeg says in Jiskra's resignation letter, he stated that right now he felt he needed to focus his energy on healing his family rather than campaigning to keep his position.

Reeg says the City Council President, Ray Stroinski, will be acting mayor temporarily. He says because a recall petition had already been filed before Jiskra's resignation, the recall election will still move forward. A tentative date for the election is July 19.

STORY FROM 12/22/11
The Thorp mayor says he's taking a leave of absence from his position.

Mayor Craig Jiskra says the leave will be in effect until March 1st. He says City Council President Ray Stroinski will be the acting mayor. Jiskra was arrested last Friday and is now charged with child abuse, stalking and disorderly conduct.

In his letter to the city of Thorp he says his family is going through "a difficult time" but the leave is not an "admission of guilt,” rather an attempt to take the spotlight off of the Thorp community.
