Area DNR Service Centers To Be Closed

Two service centers in the Eau Claire area might be closed under a proposal advanced by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources as part of a plan to reduce its budget by ten percent.

The Hoffman Hills State Recreation Area near Memomonie and the Chippewa Moraine Ice Age State Recreation Trail in Chippewa County would lose their service centers under the proposed reductions. The DNR says it would close those facilities that aren't used often to purchase licenses.

Other areas include Poynette and Lake Mills. The Natural Resources Board votes Wednesday on the department's proposal. Governor Jim Doyle directed all state departments to cut their budgets by ten percent going into the new budget year.
