Budget Request Includes Hike in License Fees

The Natural Resources Board approved a budget request yesterday to raise hunting and fishing license fees, keep some jobs, and lose some others.

Under the plan, resident hunting license fees would increase from $20 to $32, and fishing license fees would go from $17 to $20.

The Board voted to keep staffing levels intact at the Chippewa Moraine Ice Age State Recreation Area near New Auburn.

It also decided to slash more than 150 positions in the Department of Natural Resources.

The budget included a request to Governor Doyle for $1.5 million more to fighting chronic wasting disease.
