Poirier Sentencing

A Bloomer man convicted of six felonies including first degree intentional homicide was sentenced in Chippewa County Court Thursday, nine months after shooting and wounding a man.

Forty-nine-year-old Eric W. Poirier was sentenced to 40 years in prison and 20 years of extended supervision for the incident at a home near Bloomer last January.

In April, a jury found Poirier guilty of attempted first degree homicide, possession of a firearm, burglary, aggravated battery, driving a vehicle without consent and first degree intentional homicide.

Poirier was protesting his innocence as the judge passed down the sentence.
