Numbers Out on Elder Abuse
Thirty-eight hundred cases of elder abuse were reported in the state last year. About half of those were regarded as self-neglect.
Human services officials say they rely on the community to help report incidents. Besides self-neglect, there are three other categories of elder abuse-material, physical, and neglect by a caregiver.
Last year, Eau Claire County reported 29 cases; Chippewa County showed 17, Dunn-19, La Crosse 69, Jackson-5, Barron-12, Pierce-22, and Clark-0.
