Three drifters accused of killing one of their own and torturing an 11-year-old boy are due in a Portage courtroom Monday afternoon.
Today is the preliminary hearing for Michael Sisk, Michaela Shawn Clerc and Candace Clark.
They're accused of murdering Tammie Garlin, 36, and burying her behind a Portage apartment building.
During the preliminary hearing, a judge will hear testimony from both the prosecution and defense before deciding if there's enough evidence for the case to proceed to trial.
Prosecutors believe the group also tortured her son by whipping him, scalding him and locking him in a closet.
The victim's daughter is also accused of participating in the crimes, but a judge last week approved a defense motion to have the 16-year-old transferred to juvenile court.
Prosecutors describe the group as a band of drifters that spent the past two years, criss-crossing the country on the run from the law.
