Priest's Hunting Guns, Computer Seized

Friends of a Hurley priest who apparently hanged himself outside his rectory say he was upset after investigators questioned him about an unsolved double murder case in Hudson.

St. Mary of the Seven Dolors deacon Russell Lundgren tells the Daily Globe in Ironwood, Michigan, that investigators temporarily locked down the church, rectory, convent and school last week -- and told workers to leave.

Lundgren says authorities apparently seized the priest's computer and hunting guns.

Reverend Ryan Erickson was found hanging in the hallway between the rectory and the church Sunday morning. Officials with the Catholic Diocese of Superior say police in Hudson were investigating whether Erickson was involved in the shooting deaths of Dan O'Connell and James Ellison.

Their bodies were found in an office of the O'Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson in February 2002. O'Connell was the funeral director and Ellison was an intern.

Erickson served at St. Patrick's Church in Hudson before St. Mary's in Hurley., and at churches in Hudson and Ladysmith.
