Child Dies In Polk County Fire

The young victim of a fatal fire in Osceola has been identified.

Seven-year-old Andrew Long died when fire broke out in his mobile home shortly after midnight. His mother and two siblings escaped. His father wasn't home. Andrew was a second-grader at Osceola Elementary School. Fire broke out in his mobile home shortly after midnight. His mother and two siblings escaped.

A police officer and neighbor first on the scene attempted to find the boy, but were not successful. So did firefighters when they arrived.

The survivors were taken to Osceola Medical Center. The mother was later airlifted to the Burn Center at Regions Hospital in St. Paul where she's in serious condition.

The two-year-old girl and 12-year-old sister have been released from the hospital.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Two relief funds have been set up for the Long family at The River Bank and S-and-C Bank in Osceola. Osceola is on the St. Croix River in southern Polk County.
