A Saint Croix County judge has determined there is enough evidence for a trial to proceed against a man accused of beating to death his girlfriend's son.
The incident began when 41-year-old Kevin Rood was at his girlfriend's house in Hammond with her son, eight-year-old Stephen Hubbard.
The criminal complaint says rood allegedly beat Hubbard because the child had lied about wetting his pants.
Authorities say that beating lead to Hubbard’s death.
In court medical examiner Michael McGee testified about Hubbard's injuries.
He said Hubbard had between 50 to 60 bruises and cuts on his body including spinal fractures.
McGee testified that Hubbard died from a large lesion on his brain and the internal bleeding from that lesion.
McGee said it was his expert opinion that the lesion was the result of child abuse.
Rood remains in jail on a $500,000 cash bond; he is due back in court at the end of this month.
