"Shaken Baby Syndrome" At Heart of Murder Trial
A homicide trial starts today for a Wausau baby sitter accused of killing a 14-month-old boy.
Tammy Millerleile was taking care of Jake Mentink in March 2002 when he died from injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome.
Court records show Millerleile told investigators the boy fell down five or six stairs, but they said they didn't believe her story.
A forensic pathologist testified at a preliminary hearing that Jake died of blunt force trauma to the head, suggesting he may have been struck by a hard object.
Millerleile is free on 15-thousand dollars cash bond.
She faces up to 60 years in prison if she's convicted of first-degree reckless homicide. The trial is expected to last through Friday.
