Accusations of Diluting Milk in Marathon County

Investigators say some Wausau area dairy farmers are facing prosecution for diluting their milk with water to increase their income.

Marathon County prosecutors say one milk hauler and seven dairy farmers are allegedly involved in the scam claiming that tests showed four percent water content when it should have been zero content.

Authorities acted on a tip from a hired hand employed by one of the farmers. The watered-down milk was headed for a Marathon County cheese factory.

Convictions of those involved could result in up to ten years in prison and a $25,000 fine for each individual.
