Vaccine Update

February in Wisconsin is what the Center for Disease Control calls the peak of season for influenza. If you aren't vaccinated, health officials are recommending that you should be.

Eau Claire City-County Health director Jim Ryder says Wisconsin is nearing the peak for this year's flu virus.

Although the CDC recommends getting the vaccine as soon as it's available, Ryder says being vaccinated now can still offer protection.

"Even if it doesn't totally prevent them from getting the flu, they might not be hospitalized as a result of getting the flu or complications or in some extreme cases, it might prevent death," says Ryder.

In Eau Claire, Marshfield Clinic and the Eau Claire Family Medicine Clinic still have the flu vaccine available for the general public.

The UW-Eau Claire Student Health Center has vaccine for staff and students.
