Car Insurance Bill

Wisconsin drivers would be forced to buy liability insurance under a bill a state lawmaker is again shopping around for support.

Wisconsin and New Hampshire are the only states that don't require auto liability insurance.

Wisconsin law assumes drivers automatically accept financial responsibility for crashes they cause.

Drivers who can't pay lose their license and registration until they can.

The bill's author, Senator John Lehman, introduced it twice before.

He started soliciting co-sponsors again Thursday.
