State Poll of Presidential Candidates

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A new poll shows that Wisconsin Democrats favor Hillary Clinton for president, while Republicans support Fred Thompson.

But no candidate appears to be a clear front runner in the University of Wisconsin Survey Center's Badger Poll released Monday (today).

Thirty-nine percent of Democrats and independents leaning that way say they want to see Clinton win the nomination. She's followed by Barack Obama with 26 percent and John Edwards at 15 percent. That question had a margin of error of 6 percentage points.

Among Republicans and independents leaning that way, 30 percent say they favor Thompson as their nominee.

He's followed by Rudy Giuliani at 25 percent and John McCain at 15 percent. The margin of error was 7.4 percentage points.

The poll was conducted between November 27 and December 5.
