Microchipping Animals

The Eau Claire Humane Association is now offering a procedure to all pet owners that could help return their animal more quickly if it runs away.

For the past two years, only animals adopted from the shelter have been microchipped.

For $15, a chip the size of a piece of rice that contains a barcode will be inserted under the animal's skin.

A scanner can use that code to find the owners information.

Director Lauren Evans says the more animals that receive chips, the better.

"We're hopefully going to see good results too, because as the stray animals come into our shelter, we'll be able to match more of them with their owners," says Evans.

The procedure usually takes about 15 minutes. Contact the Eau Claire Humane Association to make an appointment. Check out their website at www.eccha.org.
