DNR Reacts to Menards

Last week Menards announced it will build a new manufacturing plant for store fixtures in Minnesota.

Company officials say it's because the DNR was too difficult to work with.

Yesterday Menards released details of their meetings with the DNR saying the Department refused to let Menards build over two small wetlands and near a larger one.

Today regional DNR director Scott Humrickhouse says they were always willing to work with Menards and they simply requested changes to the company's plans in order to protect the wetlands and surrounding environment.

Humrickhouse says it's common when working near wetlands and with a project of this size that it can take months to work out the details and get the correct permits.

Humrickhouse says they were not aware of any problems between the department and Menards.

He says their last meeting was two months ago when they had asked Menards to make some changes to their building project and he thought they were getting close to reaching an agreement.

Humrickhouse says they're willing to help Menards design a structure that fits with the company and the environment's needs.
