A university professor is set to test Tasers on pigs to challenge the claim that the stun guns caused 70 deaths in North America.
University of Wisconsin-Madison researcher John Webster says he will soon begin trials on 10 anesthetized pigs using a $500,00 dollar grant from the U-S Justice Department.
Webster says many of the deaths were caused by the victims being high on cocaine.
In the study, some pigs will be shot with Tasers after being injected with cocaine.
But a Madison animal rights group, the Alliance for Animals, says the testing is unnecessary, saying there is plenty of evidence to show that Tasers can damage people's hearts.
