Wisconsin Tops Nation in Binge Drinking

A new study says Wisconsin has the highest binge-drinking rate in the nation.

The study by Harvard University and the federal government also says the state's college students are the second biggest drinkers nationwide.

It will appear in the March issue of the American Journal of Public Health.

The study counts those who have had five or more drinks on a single occasion over the last 30 days.

More than 26% of Wisconsin adults polled said they had. That compares to 18.5% of Michigan adults.

For college students, nearly 65% in Wisconsin said they had a drinking binge in the last two weeks.

That's second out of 40 states polled, behind Maryland, where the rate was 80 percent.
